LCA ZAMBESIExceptional herdsires are defined by their excellent phenotype and fleece characteristics, coupled with a superb pedigree. LCA ZAMBESI is an outstanding example of Latah Creek’s consistently successful breeding program. His remarkable success in the 2002 and 2003 halter show season document his solid confirmation and exquisite suri fleece. He has garnered eight first place ribbons in nine shows, as well as Supreme Grand Champion at the International Alpaca Odyssey 2003, Color Champion at the Alpaca Western Extravaganza 2003, and Reserve Color Champion AOBA 2003. Recent presentations at the “Gold of the Andes” Fiber Evaluation Symposium educated us to the highly desirable goal of breeding for superfine fleece < 22 microns, as it represents only 10% of the Peruvian fiber production, and commands the highest price in the international fleece market. Fleece of this quality will possess the greatest demand in the world textile market. Jack Armstrong of Latah Creek has remarked that ZAMBESI represents perhaps the finest male fleece they have produced at their ranch. His fleece characteristics show an AFD of 19.8 microns, and %> 30 microns of 2.2%, and yet maintaining outstanding lock structure to the skin line. ZAMBESI also represents only one of several light fawn male herdsires produced by his sire INCA. His sire INCA is without question one of the premier Suri herdsires in North America, producing multiple show winning Suris with fine lustrous fleece and stunning independence of lock during the past 10 years. A product of Don Julio Barreda’s Estancia Accoyo, Inca demonstrates his dedication to keeping pedigrees and breeding only Suris to Suris over many decades. His dam MARTINA is one of Latah Creek’s highly coveted foundation females that has produced show quality cria year after year, and has produced multiple major show winners over the years.
